The Best Tourtière (Instant Pot or Stove Top)

The Best Tourtière (Instant Pot or Stove Top)

Can’t you just see the joy on your family’s faces when you pull this delicious French Canadian Tourtiere from the oven during the Holidays?  The golden pie crust plus all of those delicious spices will make every mouth water.  You can make the filling using your Instant Pot or Stove Top, there are recipes for both below.

Slice of tourtiere on white plate with red antipasto on the side

The best French Canadian Tourtiere is so rich and full of good things like beef, pork, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves!

Juicy slice of French Canadian Tourtiere, just look at that golden pie crust.

“How do you make Tourtiere is the #1 question I get asked! And you know it is so easy to make.  The recipe comes out perfect every time, and my readers tell me that too!  The rich blend of beef, pork and spices create a special cozy dish that rests inside my perfect flaky pie crust.  I’ll show you all my tips and tricks on how to make this delicious Tourtiere.  French Canadian Tourtiere is a meat pie and you can enjoy one now and freeze one for later, because this recipe makes two Tourtiere!  You can serve a crowd of 10 or 12 with this awesome recipe.

Now I typically make the delicious beef and pork filling in my cast iron pan.  And I’ve always had to be really careful with this, because as I’m sure you know you can overcook meat if the heat is too high and it will dry out.

Bubbling French Canadian Tourtiere, ready to serve for an unforgettable holiday season!

So this past week I decided to try to make this awesome tourtiere recipe in my Instant Pot pressure cooker!  And you won’t believe not only how easy it is, but how delicious and moist the result was!  I also used a frozen ready made pie crust, because I was entering a contest by Tenderflake.   I didn’t win a prize, but I think we’re the winners with this amazing recipe!

So this post has been added to.  You can make tourtiere with the classic recipe or use the alternate instructions to make the filling in the instant pot.

Unbaked french canadian tourtiere in white baking dish

Our Tourtiere is all dressed up with a maple leaf pie crust topping!

Well traditionally a French-Canadian dish, an authentic tourtiere recipe is often served during the Holidays, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years, but I like to have a few of these hearty meat pies in the freezer for those days you just don’t have time to cook.

Now I know the main focus of this blog is easy family recipes, but I also have a passion for golden flaky pie crust.  And this traditional tourtiere recipe really delivers!

We couldn’t wait to dig into this juicy traditional tourtiere!

“How do I make a Tourtiere recipe when my schedule is jammed packed with everyone and everything else?”

freshly baked tourtiere in white baking dish with sprigs of thyme on top

Have a slice of this yummy Tourtiere won’t you? It’s a meal unto itself, and all you really need to add is a side salad.

We even have them after a long afternoon on the golf course!  This is one meat pie recipe you will want to serve anytime, not just during the Holidays.  The blending of different meats, herbs and spices in this authentic tourtiere recipe will have your mouth watering long before the pie is ready to serve.  But be patient!  The pie crust  and delicious filling in this recipe is worth the wait.

What is in a Tourtière?  Well in addition to deliciously lean cuts of beef and pork, that are slowly simmered, I think the unique combination of Tourtiere spices that includes cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and summer savoury, provide an earthy, rich flavour.

Need a Pie Crust Recipe? No problem!  Check out my post Five Steps To Make Perfect Pie Crust.

Or in the case of the Instant Pot Recipe just below, you can speed up the process even more by using a prepared frozen pie crust.  Honestly?  I prefer my own pie crust.  But when pressed for time, or for no reason at all, I will use ready made pie crusts.  The quality is so much better today than it was even five years ago!

TIPS FOR A PERFECT FRENCH CANADIAN TOURTIERE IN THE INSTANT POT

I really didn’t change anything for the recipe ingredients at all, not even the water.  The filling still has to bake in the oven for 35 TO 45 minutes.

  • Use prepared frozen pie shells for the Instant Pot version of this recipe
  • Thaw the pie shells in the refrigerator while the tourtiere filling is cooking
  • Follow all the directions carefully
  • Don’t worry if the filling appears to have alot of liquid.  Some of it will bake away
  • Use pie crust cutters  (links below) to create a lovely design on your top crust or if using a solid top crust, be sure to cut several vent holes to let out the steam
  • Let the Tourtière stand for about 10 minutes before serving
  • Bon Appetit!

Whether you cook the filling on the stove top or use the Instant Pot, this traditional tourtiere recipe can be made ahead in a batch and frozen, either in the large 9.5” family size, or in an individual 4” size.

Pop the frozen Tourtière into the oven for 30-35 minutes, add a salad and presto!  A meal in minutes. Alternatively, bake the pie in a microwavable dish, and dinner can be ready quicker than that!

If you haven’t jumped on the Instant Pot bandwagon yet, you might wish to consider it.  Or maybe put a bug in someone’s ear that you would love one as a gift!  This Instant Pot is an Amazon Bestseller, and it’s the one that I have.

I also love to use a traditional baking dish to make my Tourtiere in.  These Emile Henry baking dishes are very heavy and deep, so this two crust pie will actually fill one baking dish with just a bit leftover for a mini meat pie.  I love the cherry red color too!

And finally if you want to have fun making pie crust designs, this set of  pie crust cutters is all you need.

THE BEST FRENCH CANADIAN TOURTIERE

An easy recipe, and perfect for beginner pie bakers.  This Tourtière recipe is based upon the Mme Jehane Benoit Tourtière recipe, so I hope you enjoy it!

Not sure what to serve with a Tourtière?  Shown here with a tart tomato antipasto – mainly because I wanted something red!   But you can use your imagination and add any type of side dish.  The Tourtiere is a meal unto itself, so I tend to choose lighter sides, like a tossed salad, or grilled root vegetables.

If you like the recipe please give it a 5 star rating.

A traditional French-Canadian dish, Tourtière, or meat pie is usually served around the festive season. It's such a hearty meal and easy to make in batches, so batch bake several and put them in the freezer. You can pull one out and pop it in the oven one night when you are pressed for time. Just add a salad! We have an Instant Pot Tourtiere and a Stove Top Tourtiere - take your pick!

Ingredients
Ingredients
  • 2 pie crust recipe uses lard, makes top and bottom crust
  • 2 lb. ground beef lean
  • 1 ½ lb. ground pork lean
  • 2 onions large, cooking
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 cup parsley chopped
  • 1 ½ c water filtered
  • 3 tsp summer savory dried
  • 1 tsp cinnamon ground
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2/3 cup rolled oats large flake
  • 1 egg yolk large
  • 3 tsp. milk
  • 1 tsp cloves ground
Instructions
Instructions for Stove Top
  1. In a large saucepan with a heavy bottom, (at least 3 quarts/litres) cook, beef, pork, chopped onion, celery, parsley, water, and all of the spices and herbs – on medium heat, until the mixture comes to a boil and the meat is broken down and looks crumbly – this will take 15-20 minutes (the meat should not be pink).  Then let the mixture simmer on low heat until the liquid is cooked down– this will take 50 – 60 minutes TIP: keep checking to make sure your burner isn’t set to high and overcooks the mixture, you don't want the meat to dry out!

  2. Once cooked, stir in the oats and set aside to cool.  If you didn’t have time to make your pastry you can cover the mixture and put it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
  3. Put half of the meat mixture into one pie shell.  Roll out the top crust and with the edges moistened (see 5 Steps to Perfect Pie Crust!) flute the two crusts together with your fingers.  Brush the crust with a mixture of the milk and egg yolk (this will give the crust a golden glow) Cut vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.  Repeat for the second pie.

  4. Bake in the bottom third of the oven at 400F for 35 to 45 minutes or until the crust is golden.  Let the pie stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.  It will be piping hot!  Each pie will serve 6 to 8 people.
  5. To freeze your authentic tourtiere recipe:  double wrap in aluminum foil and then place inside a zippered freezer bag to prevent freezer burn.

Instructions for Instant Pot
  1. Get your frozen pie shells out of the freezer and let them thaw before baking

  2. In the bottom of your instant pot, place all of the ingredients: onion and celery, beef, pork, parsley, water, and all of the spices and herbs

  3. Mix the ingredients up - make sure the meats are broken down as much as possible

  4. Put the lid on your Instant Pot and set the timer to Meat/Stew for 20 minutes on High.

  5. Do a slow release for 5-7 minutes, then a fast release for the rest of the pressure.  Remove the lid and let stand for about 10 minutes.  You want to do this because the filling will be piping hot and it makes it easier to put into the pie shell

  6. Prick the bottom of the pie shells with a fork and put half of the filling in each pie shell and spread evenly.

  7. With the two remaining pie shells, gently remove them from the pans, and roll them out on your baking mat.

  8. Using the pie crust cutters, create fun designs to cover the tourtiere mixture. OR you put the entire crust on the top, crimp the edges using your fingers.  MAKE SURE you cut a hole in the top crust for steam to escape.

  9. Bake in the bottom third of the oven at 400F for 35 to 45 minutes or until the crust is golden. Let the pie stand for 5-10 minutes before serving. It will be piping hot! Each pie will serve 6 to 8 people.
  10. To freeze your authentic tourtiere recipe: double wrap in aluminum foil and then place inside a zippered freezer bag to prevent freezer burn.
Recipe Notes

This recipe makes two 9" pies.

Tip: you can get the bottom crust ready, but leave the rolling of the top crust until you have your filling prepared. Prep time includes the chilling of the pastry dough.

S’mores Crock Pot Chocolate Lava Cake Takes The Prize!

S’mores Crock Pot Chocolate Lava Cake Takes The Prize!

S’mores Chocolate Lava Cake from the Slow-Cooker is the perfect answer to any problem.  You know THOSE days?  When nothing goes right, and all you want is something sinfully sweet and delicious and the first thing you think about is CHOCOLATE!  And not just any chocolate.  We want molten chocolate, like you get in Chocolate Lava Cakes in a restaurant – like Denny’s or Chili’s.  Those cakes that put a smile on your face every time. And this delightful concoction is a S’mores Chocolate Lava Cake, and we all love the combination of chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers!

Chocolate doesn’t ask questions….chocolate understands.  Am I right?

You will need these ingredients:  Chocolate Cake Mix, Chocolate Chips, Instant Chocolate Pudding, Mini Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, Chocolate Syrup & Vanilla Ice Cream!

I love using my slow cooker – soups, stews, pulled pork, potatoes, chili, roast beef, chicken….. well I’m sure you do too.  Why?  Because it saves me TIME.  What’s the one thing that people say on a Monday morning when you ask “how was your weekend?”  Always, always – “it was too short!” So in addition to finding ways to make delicious pies and pastry – I’m searching for easy and quick recipes for you to make delicious desserts.

two dishes of smores crockpot chocolate lava cake, two glasses of kahlua, candles and table decorations

S’mores Crockpot Chocolate Lava Cake all set for two!

On long weekends I often make an amazing BBQ Pulled Pork.  So following on that success, I’ve been researching recipes and wondering what other wonderful things I could use my crock pot for?  I got my answer earlier this week from hubby Mark, who advised me that when he returned home to our RV last Monday the propane tanks were empty.  Apparently all of the baking I’ve been doing in our little oven in the RV takes a ton of gas!  Who knew?

We’ve since fixed that problem with a bigger tank, but I know lots of folks who RV full time, and even those that don’t RV at all that love to use their slow cooker for making delicious desserts.  One of my favorite cookbooks is the Fix It and Forget It! and that’s where I found the basis for this recipe and modified it to make it easier!

two white bowls with smores crockpot chocolate lava cake on blue and white napkin with two spoons and wooden measuring spoons

S’mores Chocolate Lava Cake made in the crockpot for two! Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce make it a perfect sweet treat.

Using a Crock Pot to make squares or bake a pudding or cake, it’s just not a connection I make when thinking about creating a dessert.

But after making this amazing S’mores Chocolate Lava Cake, my crock pot has moved to the top of my list for baking delicious Sweet Treats.

TIPS FOR A PERFECT S’MORES CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE IN YOUR CROCK POT

  • Grease the slow cooker and line it with heavy aluminum foil, leaving an overlap around the edge – so that you have something to grip to pull it out of the slow cooker
  • Bake your Chocolate Lava Cake on low.
  • To prevent too much moisture from getting on top of the cake, put a layer of paper towel just under the lid
  • Follow all of the directions exactly
  • Leave the lid in place for the required time. No peeking!
  • Turn off the slow cooker and let the cake cool for a few minutes, before serving with your favorite toppings.  Don’t worry the chocolate inside will be hot!

Just five main ingredients – cake mix, instant pudding, graham crackers, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows will get you to the promised land of chocolate!

For the cream cheese filling:

  • 1            C Powdered sugar
  • 2            tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1            tsp Cinnamon

  • 2            tbsp Caramel Sauce
  • 8            oz Cool Whip

TIPS FOR A PERFECT NO BAKE APPLE PIE LASAGNA

  • Beat cream cheese on medium-high speed with a wire whisk attachment until light and fluffy, and then turn off your mixer to add the dry ingredients: powdered sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon. Beat the dry ingredients into cream cheese, using your mixer on low.
  • Buy your Heath (Skor) Bars at the bulk food store.  It’s cheaper and then you can chop them up with a food processor – just until you get bite sized chunks.
  • Add heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat on medium-high speed until whipping cream is fully mixed into cream cheese. Add caramel sauce last and mix into the batter batter.
  • Add cool whip and beat on medium speed until mixture is well combined. Divide into thirds.
  • Follow all of the directions carefully.
  • Cover the bottom of your pan with graham crackers, in a double layer. You can break the crackers into pieces in order to get into the nooks and crannies.
  • Cover graham crackers with a layer of the cream cheese batter and spread evenly. Spoon apple pie filling over cream cheese. Add a small handful of toffee chips on top and cover with a thin layer of cool whip. Repeat this twice so that you end up with three layers. Cover the top layer of Cool Whip with additional toffee bites and drizzle with caramel.
  • Allow at least two hours in the fridge so that the graham crackers soften.
  • Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated.

This 13 X 9 pan from Wilton is a real workhorse when it comes to cooking and baking.  I use it for cakes, squares and this delicious No Bake Apple Pie Lasagna, but it also could double for any chicken dish or main course lasagna you can throw at it.  What I really love about this 13 x 9 pan by Wilton is the plastic cover, and of course it has Wilton’s quality and is a no stick pan to boot.  And it’s an Amazon bestseller, so you know that lots of happy cooks are using this pan!  You can order one here.

NO BAKE APPLE PIE LASAGNA

This luscious dessert takes apple pie to a whole new level.  When you close your eyes and take a mouthful, there is a creamy explosion of apple pie, chocolate toffee, whipped cream, caramel, and graham crackers all at once!  You will have enough to feed 24 hungry folks a very generous portion, using a 13 x 9 pan. And don’t worry if you have some leftovers.  🙂  Ahh leftovers mean some snacks later for you too!

If you love this recipe as much as I and my family do, please give it a 5 star rating in the recipe card below.

Ingredients
For the pie filling:
  • 3 cans Apple Pie Filling
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
For the cream cheese filling:
  • 8            oz Cream cheese softened
  • 1            C Powdered sugar
  • 2            tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1            tsp Cinnamon
  • ½           C Cream 35% MF
  • ½           tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 2            tbsp Caramel Sauce
  • 8 oz Cool Whip 1 tub
For the lasagna:
  • 2-3         pkg Graham Crackers
  • 8            oz Cool Whip 1 tub
  • 1            C Heath Candy Bar crushed, Heath Bars, Skor in Canada
Instructions
  1. Beat cream cheese on medium-high speed until light and fluffy.

Add the dry ingredients: powdered sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon. Mix into cream cheese, with mixer on low.

Fold in heavy cream (35% MF) and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until whipping cream is fully mixed into cream cheese.

Add caramel sauce and mix into the batter.

  2. Buy your Heath (Skor) Bars at the bulk food store. It's cheaper and then you can chop them up with a food processor - just until you get bite sized chunks.
  3. Add cool whip and beat on medium speed until mixture is well combined. Divide into thirds.
  4. Cover the bottom of your pan with graham crackers, in a double layer. You can break the crackers into pieces in order to get into the nooks and crannies.
  5. Cover graham crackers with a layer of the cream cheese batter and spread evenly. Spoon apple pie filling over cream cheese.
  6. Add a small handful of toffee chips on top and cover with a thin layer of cool whip. Repeat this twice so that you end up with three layers. Cover the top layer of Cool Whip with additional toffee bites and drizzle with caramel.
  7. Leave the lasagna in the refrigerator for about 2 hours before serving.   Store in an air tight container and keep refrigerated. Best served cold.

The Best Razzleberry Pie Recipe

The Best Razzleberry Pie Recipe

This is the Best Razzleberry Pie Recipe, a delicious blend of only the best berries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.  The sweetness and tartness of this mixed berry pie is an explosion of red and purple in your mouth.  Razzleberry Pie or Triple Berry Pie as it is often called, has also become very popular during the holidays as a colourful alternative to pumpkin!

The rich buttery pie crust, with that dreamy lattice top is so easy to make too, and I’ll show you how to make your very own Razzleberry Pie with a Lattice Topped Pie Crust, step by step!

You know when you really crave something sweet and nothing, but nothing will satisfy it? Not fruit, not something sugar free either.

We want the real deal!

Well I recently had such a craving for pie, and blueberry pie in particular.  Now I could have picked up a ready made pie from the local bakery, but that wasn’t going to cut it either.   I needed a homemade blueberry pie!

(This post contains affiliate links, at no cost to you.  You can read The Fine Print here!)

I knew I had some leftover frozen blueberries, but didn’t have quite enough for my recipe.   So when you don’t have enough blueberries, what do you do?

You improvise and add other berries to make a mixed berry pie or what’s known as a razzleberry pie!   So what is razzleberry pie?

Now the experts will tell you that a true razzleberry pie or triple berry pie has blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in it.   There are lots of recipes out there for mixed berry pie.

The Pioneer Woman has an amazing mixed berry pie.  There is even a famous razzleberry pie – Marie Callender’s Razzleberry Pie.  I’m sure it’s very good, but you and I like to bake from scratch, don’t we?

And we are on a quest for the perfect razzleberry pie recipe!

Now I’m not that fond of blackberries, so my version of razzleberry pie doesn’t include them.  But just in case you do, I’ve included blackberries as an option in the recipe below.

To be honest I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a razzleberry pie recipe!  I was shocked at all the recipes I found!

I remember a dear friend of the family, June always calling her raspberry pies, “razzleberry”.  She is such a sweet person, and loves to bake.  So when I was putting this recipe together I immediately thought of her and her razzleberry pies.

And I really wanted to bake a pie using my new secret weapon.

What’s that you ask?  It’s the Dough E-Z pastry rolling system.  I recorded a video so that you can see it in action!

Pretty amazing if you ask me, and the fact that I can roll out delicious and thin perfect pie crust without all the usual fuss and floury mess, has me sold on this product!

Check it out for yourself!  Click this link to order your very own Dough EZ Rolling System!

My homemade razzleberry pie recipe, is based on the Classic Blueberry Pie Recipe from one of my favorite cookbooks – A year of pies! By Ashley English.

This cookbook is so delightful and covers everything from making the pie crust to delicious pie recipes by season.

I used my favorite pie crust recipe – which is a combination of butter and shortening.  I always use this recipe because it makes enough for two – 2 crust pies.  That means I can freeze the balls of pastry dough that I don’t need and it’s such a time saver.

The next time you decide to make a pie, you’re all ready to go!  I’ve been teaching this method of pie baking for several years now.

Here are some comments from readers and students alike!

Excellent instructions, beautiful displays of how to create the art of pastry making, very clear voice and very tasty pies and pastries. A wonderful course to take! Lili F.

I feel much more confident about trying different pastry recipes! Karrie

I really enjoyed the course and the teacher is excellent.  Loved the recipes and her ideas for the crusts!  Thank you for the great class! Dianne E.

Now I haven’t taught an online pie baking course in a while but I’m wondering if that would be something that you would like? I love to share my pie baking secrets!

Pie Lovers everywhere wait in anticipation for fall and the harvest, cause that’s when we make the most delicious pies!

Apple Pies, Butter Tarts and Pumpkin Pies.  Plus we’ll bake savory pies too, like my famous French Canadian Tourtiere!

For now though, let’s get back to this amazingly easy razzleberry pie recipe ok?

Don’t you just love the lattice pie crust?  And I’ll show you how to get that delicious golden glow too.

This razzleberry or triple berry pie packs a sweet punch in that deep purple goodness!  And the recipe is so easy, no pre-cooking the filling!

Just mix up the berries, sugar, lemon juice, and a  bit of corn starch.

So here’s what you need:

  • Blueberries (frozen)
  • Raspberries (frozen)
  • Blackberries (frozen, optional)
  • Sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Lemon zest
  • Corn starch

Now for perfect flaky pie crust you will need these ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • ¼ cup ice cold water

This is my classic pie crust recipe that you mix with pastry blender by hand, using a gentle but firm touch.  You can get all of the details in my post How To Make Perfect Flaky Pie Crust or……

Want to see a video on How to Make Pie Crust?  You can check it out here on my YouTube Channel!

TIPS FOR PERFECT RAZZLEBERRY PIE WITH A BUTTERY, FLAKY PIE CRUST

  • Mixing corn starch into the razzleberry pie filling keeps the pie from becoming a soggy mess
  • Use Fresh or Frozen berries
  • Follow all of the directions carefully
  • You might want to use a pie crust shield to protect the edges of your pie crust from getting too dark and dried out
  • Chill the pie crust with the pie filling in it in the fridge for about 30 minutes before baking. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
  • Bake your pie in the bottom third of your oven
  • As with most fruit pies, we want to get the oven really hot for the first 15 minutes – so set it at 425F and then turn it back to 375F for 50 minutes or until your crust is golden

Ingredients
  • 2 cups Blueberries frozen
  • 2 cups Raspberries frozen
  • 2 cups Blackberries frozen, optional
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Lemon zest
  • 1/3 cup Corn starch
  • 1 10" pie crust made from scratch
Instructions
  1. Combine the blueberries, sugar and cornstarch, lemon zest, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt in a large bowl and mix well.

Lightly press down on the blueberries to release their juices.  Cover the bowl with a tea towel and let sit for 15 minutes.

  2. Preheat the oven to 375F

Pour the filling into the bottom crust and spread evenly, and dot the pie with the diced butter.

Roll out the remaining pastry dough for the top.  We're going to make a lattice top and you can do that with a pastry cutter.

Weave the strips back and forth, just like the video.  When finished turn the ends under and flute the pie crust edges.

Brush it with the egg wash and return to the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Put your pie on a cookie sheet that you have lined with parchment paper or foil.  This will catch the juices.

Bake in the bottom third of your oven for 55 to 60 minutes

    Enjoy!

Kahlua (R) Pumpkin Pie Recipe | A Delicious Twist to a Holiday Classic!

Kahlua (R) Pumpkin Pie Recipe | A Delicious Twist to a Holiday Classic!

Homemade Kahlua Pumpkin Pie Recipe!

overhead shot of kahlua pumpkin pie surrounded by harvest decorations

This homemade Kahlua pumpkin pie recipe is the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever made!  The combination of pumpkin pie spices and the chocolate coffee flavors of Kahlua can’t be topped!  And of course that mountain of whipping cream just adds to the experience don’t you think?

Now I love to make my own pie crust, that’s what pieladybakes.com is all about right?  It’s a crazy busy time at work right now, and combining that with the holidays and baking, well I thought I would explore what is out there when it comes to frozen pie crusts and products. For this pie I decided to try one of the popular cookie pie crusts that everyone is using right now.

Baking the Pie Crust:

I just love the flavour of gingerbread, so for this recipe we’re making a gingerbread cookie pie crust!  One box of 24 cookies, crushed in your food processor, with a little butter and sugar and presto!  You have one delicious pie crust.  We bake it for about 15 minutes before baking the whole pie.

Making the Filling:

With the pie crust out of the way, putting the filling together takes about 15 minutes when you have all of your ingredients out on the counter.  I like to get everything out and measured too, as I find this method of baking really saves time.  I’m all about organizing my pantry and saving time in the kitchen, are you?

The first ingredient of the recipe is Kahlua – how cool is that?

Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie Spice:

Now I rarely have pumpkin pie spice in my pantry.  Honestly I just never think to buy it.  So here’s a trick so that you will always have your own homemade pumpkin pie spice on hand!  Pumpkin Pie Spice includes cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves.  So the ratio is always

  • 1 part cinnamon
  • 1/4 part ginger
  • 1/4 part nutmeg
  • 1/8 part cloves

Mix it up in a cute little jar like the one shown here (I usually pick these up at the dollar store or big box kitchen store). And there you go!

Putting it together:

As soon as the filling is cooked, pour it slowly into the baked pie shell and then bake in your oven as per the recipe below.

Once your pie has baked and cooled, it’s time to go crazy with whipping cream!  Such a beautiful and perfect pie.

 KAHLUA PUMPKIN PIE RECIPE

I have made many different types of pumpkin pie recipes,

but this homemade Kahlua Pumpkin Pie Recipe is the ultimate blending of spices and exotic flavors.  Sweet and spicy, with just a hint of coffee flavour, your family will love it!  This pie is delicious change from the classic pumpkin pie (and which I love too!) that we usually eat during Thanksgiving.  But my money says you will be asked to serve this gorgeous Kahlua Pumpkin Pie any ole time at all.  Know what I mean?

And if you like the recipe, please give it a 5 star rating.

Enjoy!
