This is the best slow cooker pulled pork shoulder recipe ever with homemade BBQ sauce! Add some coleslaw, corn on the cob and dessert to complete this easy meal.

 

1 –  3 to 5 lb pork shoulder (depends on the size of your crowd)

2 cups of water

Salt and pepper

3-4 whole cloves

2 chopped cooking onions

2 pints of Best Homemade BBQ Sauce (see the recipe here!)

 

Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper, and add to the slow cooker with the water, onions and garlic.

Set the slow cooker setting to low – 8 hours

Go outside and play! Seriously! Enjoy your guests, or the day and be mindful of the pleasure you are feeling in getting this amazing meal ready. 

Once pork is cooked, drain the pork shoulder

Put it back in the slow cooker pot, and using forks pull it apart, shredding all of the meat

Stir in my Best Homemade BBQ sauce

Turn it on high and let it cook for 1-2 hours

Go and relax with a good book – or have a nap!

Place large servings of pulled pork on your favorite crusty roll, ciabatta bun, sourdough rolls (please checkout Northwest Sourdough and learn to make your own!) , add a big scoop of Creamy Coleslaw either on the sandwich or on the side – that’s a personal choice!  Round this out with fresh corn on the cob and you have Labor Day Feast!

Easy Cheddar Bay Biscuits Recipe | Red Lobster Copycat

Ingredients
Biscuits
  • 2 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1/4 cup cold butter
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese grated
  • 3/4 cup cold whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Topping
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. Combine Bisquick and cold butter. Don't combine too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter about the size of peas. Tip: I used a pastry blender
  3. Add cheddar, milk and 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  4. Mix by hand until combined, but don't over mix
  5. Drop 8 equal portions into the greased mini loaf pan cavities
  6. Bake for 15-17 minutes or until tops are light brown or a toothpick comes out clean
  7. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a bowl
  8. Stir in 1/2 tsp garlic powder and the chopped parsley
  9. Use a pastry brush to spread garlic butter mixture over tops of biscuits while they are still warm
  10. Enjoy!

Our family and friends often ask me how to make a great burger for the BBQ Grill.  My burgers are famous!

Well, the essence of this homemade hamburger recipe is the combination of the turkey, beef and pork that triples both the flavor and juicy tenderness that we all love in a good burger.

When choosing ground beef, I use lean or medium cuts — you need a little fat to make the burgers tender.  In addition to the ground beef, I included turkey and pork.  Three  500 gram/1 lb. packages will yield eight well sized burgers.

How To Make A Great Burger – Ingredients and Instructions!

Into a large bowl, combine the meat (s) until they are thoroughly mixed. Using a potato masher helps speed up the process.

Add the following spices to taste: *

  • 1 tbsp each of Salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, Herbs de Provence (rosemary, marjoram, thyme and savory)

Mix in

  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp So Hot Red Romp Sauce – adjust to taste (depends on hot you like your food!)
  • 1 package (10 oz) of mushrooms finely chopped
  • ½ chopped sweet onion

Mix everything together and shape into patties.  You will get 8 burgers from this recipe.

Make sure your barbecue grill is smoking hot. You won’t have to worry about burning the burgers because the combination of meats prevents this from happening.

Grill until almost done, then add our famous Best BBQ Sauce and cook until the sauce is caramelized.

We dressed these amazing Triple Flavor Homemade Hamburgers with heirloom tomatoes, garlic dill pickles, and our favorite condiments!

We served our burgers on fresh crusty buns or kaiser rolls with our favorite salad, like our Creamy Coleslaw!  Voila! an instant feast.

  1. Mix the beef, turkey and pork together well, using a potato masher

  3. Wrap up the burgers on a tray with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes

  4. Make sure your barbecue grill is smoking hot. You won’t have to worry about burning the burgers because the combination of meats prevents this from happening.

There are a number of chicken pot pie recipes around. This chicken pie with puff pastry is one I adapted a few years ago from an easy double crust chicken pot pie recipe in a food magazine sponsored by Walmart.  I don’t think it’s in print now.

But the most famous is the Pioneer Woman Chicken Pot Pie.  It’s to die for!

The first time I made the recipe, I followed the instructions exactly and used a piecrust for the top and bottom.  It was so awesome!

But you know me, right?!  I love to change things up, and find an easier, and quicker way to make dinner!

I like this homemade easy chicken pot pie with puff pastry recipe because:

  • it’s full of flavor
  • comes together very quickly
  • it’s a skinny chicken pot pie! Way lighter in calories than using traditional pie crust
  • the ingredients are either in your pantry or waiting to be picked up on the way home from work!

My adaption shows you how to make your chicken pot pie with puff pastry in a cast iron skillet, and use puff pastry as a top crust! I love to bake using my cast iron skillets – if you don’t have one, check out the link below – and buy one.

These pans will never wear out, you will have it for life!  Just be sure to clean them with only water and a scrub brush and then treat them with a small amount of cooking oil.

The accessories shown here includes a silicone handle, scraper and brush which will make taking care of your cast iron skillet so easy!

 

Traditional chicken pot pies have a double crust, and those are certainly delicious.  But it does take extra time if you are making your pie crust from scratch.  I have a wonderful How To Make Perfect Flaky Pie Crust guide to help you with that!

• You offer to organize the ingredients and do the shopping.
• Everyone pays their share of the cost of the ingredients
• Each guest brings their own pie tins and pans.
• Chicken pies can be baked at your house – OR everyone can take their prepared pot pies home and bake them there!

A delicious meat pie you can make tonight, using a pre-cooked chicken, frozen puff pastry and ingredients that are readily at hand.

Course: Dinner, Main Course
Cuisine: North American

Ingredients
  • 6 tbsp. butter
  • ¼ c all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • ½ c milk
  • ½ c onion cooking
  • 10 oz chicken broth 284 ml, condensed
  • ½ c potato raw, peeled and chopped
  • 1 ½ c cooked chicken store bought –roasted, or pre-cooked package
  • ¾ c peas and carrots frozen
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry frozen, then thawed, the kind that doesn't need rolling
  • 1 stalk celery chopped
Instructions
  1. Mix 2 tbsp of the butter with the flour and put aside
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the milk and set this aside
  3. Using a large cast iron pan, cook the onion and celery in the 4 tbsp. of butter and season with salt and pepper to your taste

  4. Add the potato and the broth and bring to a boil, then cover and cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the butter/flour mixture and stir this in.
  6. When the mixture has started to boil again, remove it from the heat source and stir in the milk & cornstarch.
  7. Put the pan back on the stove and bring it to a boil once again, then remove it from the heat and stir in the peas & carrots and the chicken.
  8. Cover with a lid to cool while you get your puff pastry ready!
  9. Preheat your oven to 400°F/200°C with the top rack in the lowest position. This is also known as the bottom third of your oven.
  10. Following the package instructions unroll one sheets of puff pastry.

  11. Make sure the cooled chicken mixture is mounding slightly in the middle of the skillet.

  12. Place the  sheet of puff pastry on the top, and cut a few of vents into the top crust with a knife. This will allow the steam to escape and also will make your crust very flaky!

  13. Crimp the edges of your puff pastry around the edge of the cast iron pan  and brush the entire top crust and edges with milk

  14. Bake for 50 minutes, the let cool for about 20 minutes before serving
  15. Yum!

This recipe combines two of my favorite foods – spaghetti and pie!

A match made in heaven to be sure and so quick and easy to make, I’m wondering why I haven’t thought of this before?

I had some extra ingredients, so  I doubled the recipe and also baked a 9″ spaghetti pie – to freeze for one of ‘those’ days, when I don’t feel like cooking a big dinner – 🙂

What I like about this recipe is that you actually use whole tomatoes, and season it yourself, not like the jar sauces that are already seasoned for spaghetti.

Crust
• 2 cups spaghetti
• 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
• 1 egg

• 1 clove garlic
• 6 oz lean ground beef

Crust
  • 2 cups spaghetti cooked
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp butter softened
Filling
  • 2/3 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup green pepper diced
  • 1 clove garlic minced, add more if you love garlic!
  • 6 oz lean ground beef cooked

When I first started making coleslaw and taking it to family dinners, I would use a hand grater, but when my sweet mother-in-law found out, she went right out and bought a small food processor for me.  I was overcome with the gift, but her explanation was simple.  “This is the best creamy coleslaw recipe I have ever tasted, and if I want it every time you come for dinner, then I need to know it isn’t such a chore for you to make.”  Isn’t that sweet? 🙂

Now you know I used that little food processor for a very long time, it was a Cuisinart, I think, and it just gave up the ghost and stopped working a couple of months ago.  I used it for everything from delicious flaky pie crust to chopping up my coleslaw veggies.

So I had to go shopping for a new one.  After researching the market, the best deal I could find was on Amazon.  If you can get one for under $70, then grab it, because that’s a great deal.  I looked at these two and chose the Cuisinart based on experience.

One medium sized head of green cabbage

2-3 small cooking onions

2-3 medium carrots

1 1/2 cups mayonnaise or your favorite salad dressing

2 tbsp. sugar

Salt and pepper

Pinch of paprika

 

Preparation: (Prep time – 30 minutes)

Cut the cabbage into chunks and shred in your food processor – but pulse only, so that you get a coarse grind.

Chop the onion and the carrots in the food processor as well, chopping both finely.

Place into a large mixing bowl, add the sugar, salt, pepper, paprika and mayonnaise and blend well.

Sprinkle with paprika and place in refrigerator until ready to serve.
